Can a person draw survial benefits and their social security benefits?

I worked for the Fed Govt for 35 yrs before that I worked and paid 48 quarters into Social Security, my wife worked for the Railroad and was covered by Railroad Retirement, we are now retired. My Social Security was reduced under the Windfall Elimination Clause of the Social Security Act. I was entitled to a portion of my wife's Railroad Retirement Benefits. The Railroad Retirement Board recently informed me that they were reducing my benefits because I have a Federal pension. This is a double hit, since my Social Security benefits have already been reduced by 45%? I have appealed this ruling and hope to have it reversed. Can they reduce both benefits due to a Federal pension being drawn?

At what age can you collect your pension?

There's no specific age requirement for receiving a pension. Many employer-funded pension plans allow workers to begin drawing pensions in their early 50s. Some public-employee pension plans allow public employees to do so in their 40s. If you're referring to Social Security retirement benefits, they can begin as early as age 62, but more generally begin at age 66 1/2.

Can you receive Social Security Disability spouse pension and VA disability spouse pension?

As a disabled veteran, I am witness to such cases where the veteran does collect veterans administration and social security disability. Usually the veteran is receiving VA. disability at the 100% rate. Social security will fight awarding it, usually based on the applicants age. The older you are though, the easier it is to collect both.

How would the distribution of income change if Social Security were privatized?

Privatizing social security would mean that it is no longer a guaranteed system that Americans can depend on. Instead, it would be more like a pension program, and many pension programs have ended because private companies have found them too costly. It is not worth the risk of such an important program ending or being downsized. People are really not going to save for there retirement money..that why we have this program so when we retire we can safely know that we have money.
