One has to notify Medicare when one gets married, but I am not sure if it is to continue coverage or add your partner to your benefits, or get your partners income level added to yours as income coming in. One has to notify Medicare if you sneeze!! Medicare plans are written on individuals. If your spouse needs Medicare, your spouse would first qualify on their own and then be on their own plan by themselves, not added to your plan. Your income does not effect your eligibility for Medicare, it only effects the premium that you pay for Medicare Part B. If you need to know whether or not your spouse qualifies for Medicare, this is taken directly from the Medicare and You 2009 book pertaining to qualifying for Medicare: Medicare is health insurance for people age 65 or older, under age 65 with certain disabilities, and any age with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant). See the entire book here: http://www.medicare.gov/Publications/Pubs/pdf/10050.pdf

If you like to know if you qualify to get a mobility scooter though Medicare or your health insurance at a low cost or for free, some companies do the paper work necessary for you. They will ask you to fill out a pre-qualification form, which includes your personal information, information about your insurance and about your doctor. What insurance needs to know is if the equipment is necessary for the patient to move or otherwise the patient will be in bed. In other words it’s medically necessary and the patient cannot use a wheelchair manually, the patient can use properly controls, the patient has good stability to drive the mobility scooter, and if it’s ordered by a Physical Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurology, or Rheumatology.

If you have Original Medicare only, then you would provide your doctor with a copy of your Original Medicare card so that he/she has the correct information to bill Medicare. If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage with a private insurance company, they will issue you an ID card indicating the name of your plan and your ID number. You would no longer show your Original Medicare card to your doctor, but instead show him your Medicare Advantage ID Card. Medicare would have assigned the right to administer your benefits over to the private company and they would no longer process claims they might receive from your doctor. Your new ID card will provide information on where to bill for services rendered. Keep in mind that most Medicare Advantage Plans require you to use network doctors so you should make sure your doctor is within the network your looking to join before you enroll. Otherwise you would most likely be responsible for the entire bill.
Medicare is a Federal program; there is no need to reapply when you move - just let SSA know of your new address.
There are many things you should know before buying a disability/ mobility scooter. The most important thing to realize is that you will be using this scooter to help you get around, so the first thing you need to be sure of is that it is comfortable for you. If even the slightest bit uncomfortable, ask the sales person to adjust what he can to see if it can be made to fit. If not, search until you find one that causes you no discomfort since you will be spending a great deal of time on the scooter. The second most important thing is reliabilty. Whether you are buying the scooter brand new or slightly used, do your research on the particular brand for safety as well as any other information you can find out about the scooter. If possible, make sure that you find out about any warranty or gaurantee information that you can obtain from the seller.
