If the doctor writes "sig:" (some DO NOT), that means "these are my directions or instructions" For pills, tabs and capsules it may say: PO (by mouth), ac (before meals), PC (after meals), QD (once a day) BID (twice a day), TID (three times a day), QID (four times a day), at or @HS (at bedtime [hour of sleep]).
FOR DROPS: gtt is drop, gtts is drops, AS is left ear, AD is right ear, AU is both ears.....OS is left eye, OD is right side, OU is both eyes..........PRN is "as needed", as in 1 tab QID PRN pain. There are more, but these are the most used and all I can remember right now!
