How does history view John F. Kennedy?

The United States loved JFK for his good looks and his grand idea of the Space Race, and during his time to put a man on the moon, which was accomplished in 1969, six years after being assasinated. He was also the only Catholic president and to win a Pulitzer Prize. JFK also supported the African American Civil Rights Movement.

Different people would have different answers, of course, but I most remember the day he was assassinated. Although, I was touched by the tragic death of a young man and felt very sorry for his wife and little children, I was relieved that the US would be less likely to be drawn into war with Russia and I thought, be less likely to become a socialist well-fare state. (It turned out that LBJ for the most part continued Kennedy's policies, but he was no JFK and a corrective back-lash occurred in 1968, far sooner than it likely would have occurred if Kennedy had stayed alive. )
