The House of Burgesses is a term used to by the early colonists in Virginia for the legislative body first meeting in Jamestown in 1619. The House of Burgesses later became what is now the Virginia General Assembly. The modern day version of the House of Burgesses would be the House of Delegates in Virginia.
In a single-member district basis, voters would elect on of the State's representatives from the many candidates running for a seat in the House from that district. However, State's that fill there seats by using at-large elect from the State as a whole. Instead of from a particular district. Though every voter could cote for a candidate for each one of the State's seats in the house.
If the house chooses the president , the congressmen from each state decide how to cast their one vote. Since there are 50 states, 26 are needed to elect.
