Both the NY Times and USA Today mention a number of 40,000 books. That may however be a slight exaggeration, and must at least include a great number of well-researched articles, studies and books that only partly deal with the assasination. It is however difficult to come up with a hard number, since books on the subject, including translations and adaptations, have been published all over the world. Several new ones may be in the process of being written as we speak.
My personal guess would be 'somewhere between 20,000 and 40,000'.
