If you are speaking about the U.S. Army, it really depends on the MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) that you are asking about. Consider the Army a large city. It contains people that do all kinds of jobs that require all kinds of shifts and/or hours. Today, the U.S. Army is composed of over 675,000 Active Duty and Army Reserve Soldiers. There are over 150 MOS's (jobs). At locations all over the world. The Army has soldeirs that work evenings and nights due to the occupational specialty they are assigned. Security forces works shifts, Medical crews and many others also have diffrent hours. There really is no set hours that the Army works. While most units that are in garrison (at the base) work mostly during the day (6a-6p) many work evening or nighttime hours. I worked in a Nuclear Security Unit that worked 72 hours on duty, 72 ours off-duty and 72 hours in training (which was really 9-5). So I guess the answer to your question is, it all depends on the part of the Army you are talking about.
