The pay scale is the same no matter what MOS (military occupational skill) you have. so if you are a ssgt or E-6 you will get paid the same as every other E-6 in the army. But, you may get more money in a rank if you are in a rank longer, example an E-6 with 3 years in the army wont get paid as much as an E-6 with 15 years in the army. ( it usually takes longer to get rank that fast and reach ssgt in 3 years but, not impossible). And you get additional pay for every skill identifier you have example airborne, Halo, air assault, Pathfinder, Scuba, ranger ect, ect, you will get more pay for more things you can do, then if you get hazardous duty pay, cola, BAH, ect, ect. and the army pays you more monthly for every language you speak, so green berets learn a additional language so if you are talented and can speak 3 languages fluently then three more things to get paid for(Spanish doesn't apply). So yes they can make a little more than the average soldier it can also work for a regular soldier it all depends on the individual and his capabilities.
