Ice cream has been eaten for hundreds of years ( the Romans ate ice cream) and it was very popular in the 1700's. It is reported that it was Washington's favorite desert and he had 3 ice cream freezers at Mt. Vernon. Since Adams was the first President to live in the White House I imagine it was served at some point while he was in office.

Ice cream was a very popular desert in the 1700's and Washington is reported to have had 3 ice cream freezers installed at Mr. Vernon. Since he never lived in the White House ( it wasn't built) I would imagine that John Adams served ice cream at some point when he was president.
In 1832, White House Chef Augustus Jackson began putting ice cream into fabulous molds and developing multiple ice cream recipes.
Augustus (Sambo) Jackson was a chef at the white house. He was a candy confectioner who created many ice cream recipes and also invented an improved method of making ice cream in 1832.
