Warren G. Harding was later regarded as someone who was not a great leader, and his critics noted that there was quite a bit of corruption in his administration, especially among some of his cabinet members; he either would not, or could not, stop any of it. On the other hand, he was the first president to be heard on the radio, and he did seem to have many supporters when he was elected, because he took office after the first world war and promised "a return to normalcy." It is difficult to know whether most people of his day knew about the corruption in his administration. Perhaps they did not know, since when he died suddenly in 1923, there was a major outpouring of grief and sorrow. But Harding is not remembered as a great president.
