The Library of Congress holds many collections. We visited The Library of Congress.
The British Library in London has more catalogued items than any other library in the world. The US Library of Congress in Washington DC is a close second. These are not only head and shoulders but from approximately mid-thigh above the others; the next three libraries (in Ottawa, New York and Moscow) combined do not have as many items as the Library of Congress.
22,765,967 cataloged books in the library of congress
There are exactly 540 miles of shelves in the library of congress.
The Library of Congress houses a total of three Stradivarius violins. These instruments are part of the library's significant collection of rare and unique musical items, showcasing the craftsmanship of the renowned luthier Antonio Stradivari. The violins are preserved for both their historical value and their contribution to the world of music.
According to the Library of Congress website, there are currently 32 million books in the library. With more than 142 million items (including recordings, photographs, maps) on more than 650 miles of shelving, the library adds about 10,000 to its collection per day. What started out as a room of just 3,000 books in the Capitol Building has now become the oldest book collection in the nation and the largest library in the world. And thanks to digital technology and a dedicated staff, that collection is not only growing, but it is also becoming more readily available to the world.
