What are the differences in social security benefits between a US citizen and a permanent resident?

The main difference in social security benefits between a US citizen and a permanent resident is that US citizens are generally eligible for full benefits, while permanent residents may have some restrictions or limitations on the benefits they can receive. Can resident alien receive social security and medicare when never employed in the us?

There are four types of social security benefits - retirement, disability, survivor and SSI (supplemental security income). Retirement and disability benefits are only available to people who worked in jobs covered by social security (for example, most government employees aren't covered by social security but most private sector jobs are). A resident alien can receive survivor benefits as the surviving spouse or child of a covered person. SSI makes payments to disabled, low income people, these benefits are unrelated to employment history. A resident alien can receive SSI, if they qualify. Medicare benefits are also unrelated to employment history. A resident alien that has legally resided for 5 years in the U.S. can receive Medicare benefits

Could you collect disability if your employer does not provide disability it and your work requires you to be on your feet and have to have foot surgery and be off work for two months?

There are two ways that a person can receive Disability benefits: from Social Security and/or from an employer or individual Disability policy. If your employer does not provide Disability insurance coverage and you do not have your own individual Disability coverage, you will not be able to receive disability benefits, unless you live in a state that has a state-sponsored plan. In order to receive benefits from a Disability policy, you must actually own one or have coverage through your employer. Additionally you must satisfy the requirements of the contract in order to receive benefits. Social Security benefits only pay benefits on disabilities that are expected to last longer than 1 year or end in death, so you would not qualify for Social Security benefits.

Can a dentist on permanent disibility own practices and make income from them?

This will have a LOT to do with the definition of total disability your policy provides you. If you purchased a True Own Occupation Disability policy, then Yes you can work as a practice owner and still receive 100% of your Disability benefits. The primary requirement is that you continue to be unable to perform the material and substantial duties of a Dentist. If the policy you purchased has a Modified Own Occupation definition of disability that working as a practice owner and earning an income will have a negative effect on the benefits you receive from your Long Term Disability insurance.

Can you receive life insurance other than accidental if you are receiving disability benefits the disability benefits are permanent due to a non-terminal illnesss?

The disability benefits are paid when it is ascertained that there can be no possibility of the life assured earning a livelihood ie. the life assured is totally incapicitated due to his illness so he is compensatedwith the disability benefits with or without waiver of further premiums depending upon the type of the insurance contract. The income of the insured is the one of the essentials in deciding the sum to be insured in an insurance policy . Disability benefit is given when the insured is incapacitated that he cannot earn anymore. Therefore there will not be any life insurance policies that will be issued after a permanent disability as the life becomes sub-standard. Alternatively the premiums might be prohibitively high.
