An expletive may or not be introductory in nature, and may or may not be followed by an adjective (I don't know why you say THE adjective; it sounds as if you are talking about a specific sentence that you haven't showed me). For example, the word damn can be used as an expletive, all by itself. Damn! This would normally be an expression of displeasure.

Previous answer is correct. An expletive can be used alone, or as the modifier of an adjective or noun . There is nothing objectionable in the original answer.
