Then you don't sign a Ranger contract. You just sign a contract for regular old 11B. Signing a Ranger contract doesn't send you to Ranger School - you need to be E4 or higher in order to do that - you go through the two week Ranger Indoctrination Program (now called something else, but I don't remember what), and, if you pass, you have the possibility of being assigned to a Ranger Battalion. In order to advance to Sergeant in a Ranger Battalion, you must first complete Ranger School and get tabbed out. In regular Army line units, Ranger School isn't a requirement, but it is a major advantage towards career advancement.

I was in SF in the eighties and a bunch of the guys came over from the Ranger Battalions. Also, there are a lot of Infantry units throughout the Army that send some of their people to Ranger School.

Does passing Ranger School make you an officer or an NCO or can you still be Infantry?

Okay.. you're talking apples and oranges here. If you're infantry, you're infantry - completion of Ranger school doesn't change that, and you're infantry whether you're lower enlisted, whether you're a noncommissioned officer, or whether you're a commissioned officer. Passing Ranger school helps with career advancement, but it does not facilitate an automatic promotion. I really think you need to talk to a recruiter, because I can't help but get the impression you have some incorrect notions of how the Army works.

What are the army ranger requirements?

The best way to become an army ranger is simple to expalin 1. For enlisted people: go to your recruiter and ask him about the Army Ranger contract, if your already in, do airborne school, ranger school to earn your tab, then apply for Ranger assessment and selecton process (RASP) 2 for officers: same thing as enlisted exept go to college and do rotc.

Can you be in the Army Reserve and be a Ranger at the same time?

If you earned your Ranger tab on active duty prior to joining the Army Reserve, you will still continue to be Ranger qualified. If you are simply serving in the US Army Reserve and intent to be sent to Ranger school from your Reserve unit, your chances are slim to none, and you would be better off to join the National Guard and try to get into a Special Forces unit of the National Guard. If you are looking to serve in a Ranger unit of the US Army Reserve, then this will be impossible, as there are no such units in the Army Reserve. The US Army Reserve is composed of training and support units, with all combat arms relegated to the Regular Army and Army National Guard. The one exception to this is the 100th Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment, which is an infantry battalion of the US Army Reserve, which is composed of reservists from Hawaii, American Samoa, Saipan, and Guam.

Can you get a 4 year army ranger contract or is it very rare?

When you get a "Ranger contract", it's the same as any other enlistment, except that you're given the opportunity to go to.... well, it used to be called RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Programme)... forget what they call it now. If you successfully complete RIP (or whatever it's called nowadays), then you can be assigned to a Ranger Battalion. Once you're in a subordinate unit of the 75th Ranger Regiment, you'll be expected to successfully complete the actual Ranger School before you can be promoted to Sergeant or higher. Also, the RIP contract is only available for occupations which are actual found in the line units of the Rangers... Infantry, Medics, Communications, etc. So don't enlist as a mechanic, admin clerk, etc. expecting you'll be able to get a RIP contract with it.

What is a Army Ranger?

An Army Ranger is an elite, light infantry soldier of the US Army. They are members of the 75th Ranger Regiment, which has approx. 2500 men. They are infantry, medics, and other support personnel. There are 4 battalions. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Special Troops Battalion. In order to join these ranks, you must complete these steps. 1. enlist in the army with an MOS found in the Rangers. 2. Pass basic combat training and AIT ( Advanced individual training ) 3. Pass Basic airborne school, as it is a requirement to be a ranger, as is with most us special ops. 4. Volunteer and attend RASP ( Ranger assessment and selection program ). This is an 8 week course which determines if you have what it takes to be a ranger. This course has only about 1/4 of volunteers pass. After completion, you will be assigned to one of the ranger battalions and be an army ranger. 5. After about a year or so, you will be sent to US Army Ranger School. This course is a leadership course. It's graduates are commonly confused with being rangers. Although they earn the ranger tab, they are not actually rangers. A ranger must pass this course in order to hold a leadership position in the Regiment and attend specialty schools such as Freefall and Scuba. The rangers perform a variety of tasks. They are a special operations, light infantry force, possibly the best infantry in the world. They conduct raids and shock operations by land, air , or sea. They are highly elite and have a great combat record. For more info, you can simply go to GoArmy.com or Wikipedia.
