The United States Air Force also operates the largest space program in the world and works in cooperation with NASA.

United States Coast Guard: The Coast Guard is a maritime, military, multi-mission service unique among the military branches for having a maritime law enforcement mission (with jurisdiction both domestically and in international waters) and a federal regulatory agemcy mission as part of its mission set. It operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, and can be transferred to the Department of the Navy by the President or Congress during time of war. It is responsible for maritime homeland security, law enforcement, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, and the maintenance of river, intracoastal and offshore aids to navigation.

Although it is the smallest branch under the Department of Defense, it is larger then most nations armies (e.g. The British Army). The Marines are primarily responsible for the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and other land operations to support naval campaigns, and the development of tactics, techniques, and equipment used by amphibious landing forces.
United States Navy: The Navy is the sea branch of the United States armed forces. The U.S. Navy is the largest in the world. Its battle fleet tonnage is greater than that of the next 13 largest combined. The U.S. Navy is responsible for the preparation of naval forces necessary for the effective prosecution of war, the maintenance of naval aviation, including land-based naval aviation, air transport essential for naval operations and all air weapons and air techniques involved in the operations and activities of the Navy, and the development of aircraft, weapons, tactics, technique, organization, and equipment of naval combat and service elements.
