Before the Revolutionary War, Jefferson was a patriot and was a prominent figure in the movement towards independence. After, Jefferson was committed to the construction of the new government, though he was not directly involved in the Constitutional Convention. When the Federalists controlled the government and federal expansion after the Constitution had been created, Jefferson continued to promote the idea of an agrarian nation built by yeoman farmers. Overall, Jefferson is most known for his ideas about: independence, Democracy, Republicanism, separation of church and state, an agrarian nation, weak central government, and states rights.
