What countries allow women to serve in its military?

The modern example is Israel, where both men and women have to serve in the military, or in national service.

Israel conscripted females for auxiliary military duty (support/training duties) until the end of the Cold War in 1990. Communist Russia conscripted females during the "Great Patriotic War" (WW2) but kept them in separate units. Female Russian fighter pilots shot down many German pilots on the Russian Front.

There are conflicting claims about the requirements for training in Cuba, but one concerning the Peoples' Republic of China is incorrect, as only a tiny proportion of the Chinese population could be accommodated in any such program.

As of February 2015, Israel is the only country where military service for women is compulsory. Women are encouraged to enlist in many other countries, and in the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, women from both America and Britain served in combat where they performed with honor and distinction.
