There wasn't a battle, but the winter camp of Washington and his troops. Many went home to take care of the family farm. There were so many they were called "sunshine patriots". The colonies were 95% farmers. In Valley Forge there is a fable about the men starving, not having shoes, and in the cold. This is not true. Federal park historians have found that they were well fed, clothed, and in warm huts. The officer wives joined their husbands. Washington in his letters to Congress couldn't admit this because he knew they would cut funds. So, he spun a story. The 10,000 man army was supplied each month with a million pounds of flour, a million pounds of meat and fish. Each man was allotted more than 3 pounds of flour, meat, and fish per day.
While marching, George Washington stopped at Valley Forge to pray for his army and that they would win the Revolutionary War.
There was no battle at Valley Forge. It was the place where Washington's troops spent the winter.
he chose valley forge because he wanted to come down on french soldiers and hopefully win that battle
It was not a turning point, yet it was the first win for Washington and that gave the troops confidence.
They received land for their duties
Martha Washington did not have a specific job in the War she just followed Geroge Washington around the battle field, and she helped injured soldiers
Conditions in the camp at Valley Forge were horrible. They were forced to live in damp, crowded quarters, Washington's army of approximately 12,000 suffered from a lack of adequate clothing and food. Diseases such as typhoid, dysentery, typhus and pneumonia ran rampant. An estimated 2,000 died. Morale plummeted. General George Washington, the men, women, and children at camp persevered, held fast to their dream, and demonstrated to the world what American fortitude and determination look like.
That is a good question.I have been wondering that myself, too. I guess people have the perception that since he was a general and that lead him to become the first president. He helped to win the revolution by being victorious at valley forge and also being a head general. Good question!
Valley Forge never was a battle it was the camp of Washington's troops. They left from this camp on Dec. 24th , 1776 to cross the Delaware River to take the Hessian troops while they were having great fun for Christmas. His men were so ragged that they left bloody footprints in the snow because their boots had rotted or they didn't have any. This was the first win for Washington and helped push the American cause forward.
