Exactly what has happened. That the political party would forget the will of the people and that the people elected would care more about getting elected than the common good. Our founding fathers never dreamed that the political system would develop into what has developed. They knew that men would disagree, argue, and eventually compromise on issues, but that the "essential good" would take over and that they would do the right thing. They never saw that a person would become a "professional politician", but envisioned people getting elected for a few years, then to go home and retire from office. Thomas Jefferon once said, "That with 2 men you have a law firm. Three men is a political party." It seems he was right.
