What do people do on Veterans Day to honor the veterans?

In the US, veterans are honored with the thoughts and prayers of citizens, and by attending military ceremonies and parades, flying the US flag on homes and businesses, and decorating the graves of deceased veterans.

the most significant thing you can do to honor a veteran is to thank them. People go as far as placing flags on veteran's graves in veteran cemetaries, paying for veteran's meals, shaking their hands, giving them a hug, but all we really want is to know we are remembered, you appreciate your freedoms, and that you took a moment to thank us... my absolute FAVORITE way vets are honored is when teachers or parents have their children write us thank you letters and then take them to the local VA clinic where we WILL receive them. I have probably 20 handwritten thank yous from little ones complete with pictures, horrible grammar, blatantly honest feelings, and adorably misspelled words...
