Muckraker and socialist Upton Sinclair, author of the landmark 1906 novel The Jungle, ran on the EPIC (End Poverty in California) platform as a Democrat for the 1934 California gubernatorial election. Although Sinclair lost by a sizable margin, the EPIC movement helped to gain support for Roosevelt's New Deal Programs, many of which were comparable to those of the EPIC movement.

Hopefully this was the 'EPIC' you were referring to.
