The "M" for all US Military equipment stands for "Military Model." The army could've done what the US Navy did and say MM; as the navy does for it's warships: DD=Destroyer, BB=Battleships, etc. But since the civilians weren't "copying" the military so much in the old days, they decided one "M" was practical enough. If the civilians had gotten out of hand and began copying the military's designation, then the army may have had to resort to "MM", such as the MM16. But they didn't, so just one letter will suffice.
its m16 as number 16 like m60 m4 m15911 etc
If the rifle has M16 stamped on it, it is an M16. The letter "M" simply stands for MILITARY MODEL even though it's only 1 letter "M"-16. AR stood for the company that originally built the rifle, the Armalite company.
The military just followed there nomenclature because the previous US military battle rifle was the m-14.
an M16 is an American rifle that was designed for use in Vietnam...
M is a fictional character in the James Bond novels and movies. He is in charge of the Secret Intelligence Service known as M16.

An M16 is chambered in 5.56 NATO round. Depending on cartridge type the speed can be between 905 m/s (2,970 ft/s) and 940 m/s (3,100 ft/s). A civilian version of an M16 can be chambered in many different calibers and the speed will depend on cartridge, load and bullet type.
I believe that Colt has the government contract to produce the M16 for the US military.
The M stand for her middle name
If you are talking about the M16 rifle, it was invented by Eugene Morrison Stoner.
armalite made the AR-15 (the first M-16) then they sold the rights to COLT who makes the M-16
