First of all, you should ake sure that this is what you want to do because becoming a doctor requires a lot of work and effort.

I recommend that you start volunteering at places like the hospital or work as a babysitter/etc to make sure you can really handle treating sick children.

If you do know that this is the job for you, study hard. Your high school grades will be very important. Make sure to take university level (or academic) courses throughout your high school years. You will probably need to complete 2 of grade 12 Biology, chemistry, or physics therefore make sure you complete the necessary prerequisites for those courses. Also, math is very important. Advanced functions is usually required, and as well as calculus.

Before you can apply for med school, you usually need to complete a few years of an undergradate program in university. It is not uncommon for students to complete a bachelor's degree (which takes 4 years) before applying for med school because of the competition. After you have finished studying at a university, you may be required to write the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) by certain med schools. When you do get into med school, you are required to study an additional 4 years after which you will receive your M.D.

After med school, you will be need to complete another 4 years of a residency period (on the job training) in order to become a pediatrician. If you want to specialize even further (i.e. the field of pediatric cardiology), you will need to complete even more years of a residency period.
