He was born Leslie Lynch King, Junior but his mother separated form his abusive birth father when he was 2 weeks old.

When Ford was three, she remarried a man named Gerald Rudolff Ford, and they informally referred to the toddler "Gerald Rudolff Ford, Jr." He went by this name from then on, though he did not legally change it until 1935, when he was 22 years old. At that time, Ford chose to spell his middle name as "Rudolph" instead of Rudolff.

It's widely recognized that Jerry Ford was the only US President under the Constitution never to have won the presidency or vice-presidency in a national election. What is less frequently recognized is that Jerry Ford is the only US President under the Constitution to have ever been a "King" (very big grin!).
