To be on the safe side, many places say about 2 feet of water. But I've been in water as little as 3 inches, many of Rivers and creeks go up and down through the year for rainfall and snowfall. But with 3 inches of water you do not want to stop you want to keep the jet ski on plane, if you stop in shallow areas like this you will bottom out and will be hard to get started again. Even if the waters a foot deep starting out you could suck up a rock. If this happens, shut the engine off get off the jet ski stand behind it and pull it towards you, this should flush the rock out, started again to check. You may have to do this a couple times. If you keep sucking up rocks while starting out, get off the jet ski with out weight it will float higher, try running with it while giving it gas to get it on plane, then jump on until you get to deeper water. Many people like deeper water because in shallower water they run the risk of damage to the jet ski, scratches to the bottom damage to the impeller and wear ring. But I've gone places were most people never go. Playing it safe? Where's the fun in that.

Is the jet drive considered as surface drive?

A jet drive is not considered a surface drive. A surface drive uses a propeller that operates partially above the water surface, providing high speed and efficiency. In contrast, a jet drive uses a water pump to propel water out of the back of the vessel, making it ideal for shallow water navigation.

What can create a hazard in jet drive boats?

Hazards in jet drive boats can arise from shallow water, as the jet propulsion system can draw in debris or sand, potentially causing damage or reducing efficiency. Additionally, the high-speed water discharge can create a significant risk of injury to swimmers and water skiers nearby. Maneuverability in tight spaces can be challenging, increasing the risk of collisions with obstacles or other vessels. Lastly, improper maintenance of the jet drive system can lead to mechanical failures, posing safety risks on the water.
