I have hit the 8 ring on a B-27 humanoid target at 100yds.
Maximum range the bullets will fly and still be dangerous? Probably 2 miles or about 3 kilometers. But if you mean the maximum range that you can expect to hit a man-sized target with just one or two shots, with the bullet still having enough velocity to do what you want it to do to that enemy, then that maximum distance would be about 50 yards or 50 meters.
That will depend on the pistol in question, as well as the cartridge, but approximately 50-75 yards.

In excess of a mile.
40 to 45 yards IF and only if you have PRACTICED ahead of time for accuracy at those yardages. It wouldn't do you any good to shoot that far if you havene't practiced.
more info is needed what is the name of gun ? The Shooters Bible has cal.22s that range from 40-XBBR KS. to Model 597.
That is not slang - 40 cal stands for 40 calories, which is a nutrition measurement.
