There are a number of launchers used by the military services of the US and other nations. Each has a specific purpose, and is used for specific mission objectives. The power of a launcher is determined in two official ways: penterating power of the projectile, and explosive power. Additionally, range is a major consideration. Unofficially, many rocket launchers have much more devastating power exiting from the exhaust port that that of the projectile itself. For instance, the exhaust from the old one shot LAW was powerful enough to clear a cone of about fifty feet of underbrush to the ground, while the 40mm projectile was effective only against moderate armor and personnel shielded inside that armor.
