There is no M-16 machine gun. There is the M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) which fires the same ammo as the M-16 and there is the M-60 Machine gun.

The M-60 can fire 550 rounds per minute.

The M-249 can fire up to 850 rounds per minute if the barrel is changed out every minute.

Actually according to http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m249.htm the m249 can fire up to 1,000 rounds per minute, the new Heckler & Koch XM-8 assault rifle (the future replacement of the M-16) can fire up to 750 rpm, and the M-16 (which does exist; to the person above me) according to http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m16.htm fires 800 rpm.
