The tension between Captain Stewart and the ARVN colonel arises primarily from differing perspectives on military strategy and the handling of local operations. Captain Stewart is concerned about the effectiveness and reliability of the ARVN forces, questioning their commitment and capability in the face of growing enemy threats. The colonel, on the other hand, feels undermined and disrespected, which exacerbates the friction as both men struggle to assert their authority and achieve their objectives in a challenging combat environment. This clash reflects the broader complexities of U.S.-Vietnamese relations during the conflict.
Captain Anthony is Colonel Lloyd's overseer on the plantation, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and enforcing the colonel's orders. Colonel Lloyd is the plantation owner and holds more authority and power than Captain Anthony. The relationship between them is hierarchical, with Colonel Lloyd having ultimate authority over Captain Anthony.
Colonel then Captain then Sergeant .
It depends which country and branch of service one is speaking of. The American military does not have the rank of Major-Colonel, the ranks of Major, Lt. Colonel and Colonel all out rank a Captain, unless the Captain is Navy or Coast Guard, then he would be equal in rank to the Colonel. In US Military, in all but the Navy, the order of these three ranks from lowest to highest is: * Captain * Major * Lieutentant Colonel * Colonel A Captiain in the Navy is the equivalent in rank of a Colonel in the Army, USAF or USMC

In most military's, an army colonel is several grades higher than captain. In the United States Army, for example, a captain is an O-3 while a colonel is an O-6. That is switched, so to speak, for most navies. A captain is the highest rank just under admiral. Note, though, that navies don't have a colonel rank.
A Group Captain is an RAF rank, equivalent to a naval Captain and an army Colonel.

Captain (The Navy has a rank of Captain that is equivalent of an Army Colonel, or such.)
The officer ranks (lowest to highest) for the Army, Marines, and Air Force are as follows. 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, and General. The officer ranks (lowest to highest) for the Navy are as follows. Ensign, Lieutenant Junior Grade, Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, Rear Admiral Lower Half, Rear Admiral Upper Half, Vice Admiral, and Admiral.
This is filed under US ARmy and US Navy, so let me clarify.. A Captain in the Army is pay grade O3, whereas a Colonel in the Army is pay grade O6. Colonel is the higher of the two. The Navy has a different rank structure for officers than the other branches. A Captain in the Navy is 06 - equivalent to Colonel. The rank of Colonel does not exist in the Navy.
