During is administration the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) was created by executive order 10980 signed on December 14, 1961 to advise the president on issues concerning the status of women. The Commission influenced the creation of the National Organization for Women. During the Kennedy administration focus shifted from protections for women to equality of women and Congress considered 412 bills related to the status of women.
