The Lusitania wasn't hit by a boat. It was hit by a torpedo.
The Lusitania was hit by only one torpedo. The ship had been carrying tons of live cargo, so the torpedo hit caused a huge explosion. Minutes later, a second explosion occurred, however, it was NOT from a second torpedo. Researchers think the first explosion triggered the second.
The RMS Lusitania was struck by a torpedo from the German U-boat U-20 on May 7, 1915. The torpedo hit the ship once, causing it to sink within 18 minutes. Although there was speculation about a second explosion, this was attributed to the ship's cargo, which included munitions. Ultimately, the Lusitania was shot at once, leading to its tragic sinking.
Lehman said the crew did not believe the ship would sink and thus did nothing to get the guests and themselves into life boats and off the ship
