The DLAB has 126 multiple choice questions. Applicable service policies require that each candidate for attendance at the Defense Language Institute be a high school graduate. For admission to a Basic Language Program, the following minimum DLAB scores are required:
85 for a Category I language (Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish)
90 for a Category II language (German)
95 for a Category III language (Belorussian, Czech, Greek, Hebrew, Persian, Polish, Russian, Serbian/Croatian, Slovak, Tagalog [Filipino], Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese)
100 for a Category IV language (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean)

There are several different avenues for obtaining language certifications; most major public universities offer courses in foreign languages; however unless you major in a particular language, your degree will not suffice as indication of your language skills. If you're already proficient in a foreign language, then you will merely need to become DLAB (Defense Language Aptitude Battery) Certified, usually requiring a 2,2,2 score for Reading, Speaking, Writing, graded on a scale of 0 - 5, with 0 meaning having No Knowledge of the Language, and 5 meaning having a College Level Professors knowledge of the language.
Technically, no injury is required to sonsumate the crime of battery. A battery is any physical contact with another person, to which that person has not consented. An assault is basically an attempt at a battery. The terms assault and battery often go together. Defenses to battery include lack of intent (such as an accident), defense of others or property, or self-defense

A grand jury witness can expect to answer questions from the prosecutor and defense attorney. They may also have to answer questions from the judge.
Self defense is the only one I can think of, and even then - you can legally use only the amount of force necessary to stop the attack WITHOUT TAKING RETALIATION OR REVENGE. However, the 'battery' part of your charge would seem to rule out this defense.
