To be the lowest grade Park Ranger (GS-05 grade), you need a BA or BS degree in just about any biology or humanities field. You may also achieve GS-05 grade by working for one year at the GS-04 grade, which are not technically park ranger jobs. The next higher grade of ranger, the GS-07, requires either a year's experience at GS-05 grade or a Master's degree. Most park rangers today also have experience volunteering or interning in the parks through organizations such as SCA (www.thesca.org).

The lowest "usual" level of GS in the USA used to be Brownies. (If you were a GS in the 70's that's what you probably were.) Brownies started in 1st grade. BUT there was a small pilot program in 1974/1975 in the US to see if Kindergarteners could "handle" GS, it was called "pixies". Later, Daisies became the new, youngest level, starting in Kindergarten.

This equivalency can vary slightly based on local salary adjustments and specific agency guidelines. Generally, NH-04 positions are associated with professional and managerial roles that require advanced skills and experience.
GS-7 is a pay grade within the General Schedule (GS) pay system used by the U.S. federal government to classify jobs and determine salaries. It typically requires specialized experience or a master's degree for entry-level positions and is often associated with roles that involve professional or administrative duties. Employees at the GS-7 level can expect to perform more complex tasks and may have some supervisory responsibilities.
