The President of the United States of America has several different powers at his disposal in dealing with countries. First and foremost, he has the full command of the United States Military, arguably the most powerful and technologically advanced military on the face of the earth which includes but is not limited to its nuclear arsenal (an important part of the Cold War) and a large population capable of being drafted into military service. Secondly, he has the negotiating power of the United States economy, one of the most overlooked powers when it comes to international politics. Even though the United States is in a large recession, it still has one of the most powerful economies in the world, although followed closely by a growing China. Thirdly, he (usually) has the combined military and economic powers of the Western Allies when negotiating with nations outside of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy. As of right now, however, China holds the most power over the United States in the form of debt ownership.
