The (first) casket of president Lincoln was a custom made lead lined walnut coffin of hexagonal shape; it was covered with black cloth and had handles of sterling silver.Later Lincoln's body was disinterred several times and placed in new caskets, amongst other a patented cast iron casket one, which had been manufactured by the (former) Crane & Breed Casket Company of Cincinnati, OH, the first firm making mass produced metal caskets in the US.
