It currently isn't known who the first one hundred and eleven recipients were, however the first documented Victoria Cross winner was won by John wood. He was part of the 20th Bombay native infantry division and he fought in the Anglo-Persian wars. he was awarded the Victoria Cross on the 9th of August 1856 in Bushire Persia.
