In the early days of the Obama administration the decor was that left by departing president George Bush. It included a portrait of Washington and of Lincoln - and a collection of decorative green and white plates.
Although Obama has mostly kept the Bush Oval Office decor, he's removed two paintings from prominent locations - the walls on either side of the big south-facing windows behind his desk - and restored two Clinton-era paintings that hung in the same spots.
There is now painting of Lady Liberty's torch that looks very bright and modern. On the other side he has The Avenue in the Rain, by Childe Hassam.
A Gregor landscape (brought over from his Senate office "Illinois Landscape No. 120," a large, 60-inch by 82-inch canvas, hangs in the dining room of the Oval Office.
