The country had a housing shortage in the late forties and early fifties. This was due to many of our servicemen coming home and wanting to set up their own households, in addition to the natural aging of city houses.

When were houses built in Chelmsford?

Chelmsford has houses from many phases of construction. there were houses already built when the Romans arrived in 60AD and a bronze age settlement was found there so it must have been founded between 3000 and 600BC. Assuming your talking about the Chelmsford in Essex (UK). The chelmsford in Massachusetts was founded in 1655, and the one in Ontario in 1868. So anywhere between 3000BC and 2011AD.

Did medieval houses have timber frames?

Most probably did. Some were built of stone, without framing, and some were log cabins. Medieval wattle and daub houses had timber frames, as did the other half timbered houses, cruck houses, and so on. There were brick houses in the Middle Ages, but I don't know anything about how they were built.

Why were antebellum houses built in the civil war of 1860-1865?

"Antebellum" means "before the war". Antebellum houses are those built before the Civil War. Surviving antebellum houses are rare in some places because many houses were burned during the war. There were few homes built in the south during 1861-65 because most house builders were serving in the army. After the war few people had money to build a large fine home for several generations, so, antebellum houses which survive are special.
