They are being sarcastic. If you didn't help them, they say "thanks for no help" to show that they noticed you didn't.
This is a sarcastic way of chiding someone for not helping you. If someone let you do a tough task alone, you would say "Well, thanks for no help!" and mean "I resent that you didn't help me!" This is not something you want to hear a friend say to you.
