It just is. That's like asking "why is car spelt with a C and not a K. It just is. Unless there's some weird and complicated origin. For that you'd have to look on a philologists' website.

*edit* apparently it is actually because during the Japanese occupation of Korea, 'corea' and 'Korea' were both commonly used. Japan didnt want 'corea' to be listed before them alphabetically so they began to standardize 'Korea' since k comes after j. silly Japanese people.
