I have Anthem Healthkeepers Plus through Medicaid in VA and it covered my lap band surgery in April 2010. There are specific requirements to meet in order to qualify for coverage such as BMI, comorbidities etc but seems as though Healthkeepers Plus has less crazy requirements than other Insurance companies. First, schedule to attend a surgical weight loss seminar with a surgeon. You can get initial information and ask questions. From there, you will schedule an office visit with the surgeon to determine you qualify for the surgery. It will then take a few weeks for the office to get everything approved with your insurance and schedule your surgery date. My process seemed to go very smoothly and very quickly with Healthkeepers Plus but I also worked with a fantastic surgeon and his office. I believe that makes a huge difference in this journey is to love the team you're working with.
