He was raised by a single mom, after his dad abandoned the family; his family struggled financially for a long time and he is very aware of what it feels like to be lower middle class and how difficult it can be to move up in society. As a result, Mr. Obama has tried to implement policies that would help the poor and the middle class: this has included two tax cuts, and a law that guarantees women equal pay for equal work. While his political opponents will disagree, there is ample evidence that he does care about the poor and middle class, and has continued to shape policies that will help them.
