An " error of judgement" determines the doom of Falder. He tries to expedite his elopement with his sweet-heart Ruth in order to free her from the plight of domestic violence, for which the young man tampers with the figured amount in the cheque. A tragic hero is meant to suffer more than he deserves. In Falder's case too, " the rolling of the chariot wheels of justice" grinds him incessantly, even when he is at large, the wild chase of country's judiciary is on.
