The 14th Amendment guarantees citizenship to all races (if born in America), due process, as well as equal protection. However, the 13th amendment abolishes slavery, and the 15th gives them the right to vote (only men). The 14th amendment is also used to incorporate other amendments to the states', and give the right to privacy (such as in the Roe v. Wade trial for abortion).

1. Originally the right to vote was only permitted to 1) property owners or 2) those that were educated. So the government only wanted voters to be people that had "a piece of the pie" So people, like women or African Americans, were not allowed to vote because they didn't own anything and were uneducated. Also women and blacks had different views and ideas which made the government want to not give them the right o vote because of how it would affect the country; people do not like change.
