Most wanted the south to continue to have slavery. Most were opposed to abolition. Most did not want it to spread at all.

The Irish migrated for many of the same reasons other peoples did. Religious freedom, fleeing other oppression, for adventure, a better life, because they were criminals and to make a better living. They also had a blight wipe out their crops in the late 1840s called the Potato Famine that encouraged them to find a better place to live.
