Slaves as they were in those early years were not classified as people in the sense you and I might think of them. During the course of settling lands, moving selling slaves were property and had no value within the family system, only as a valued piece of the property that was being transported. Slaves were closer to being thought of as a tool or equipment.

the system was called the headright system.
The "headright" system was developed as an attempt to get more colonists to move to the newly established English colonies in the Chesapeake area. It guaranteed any colonist who paid their way to the colonies 50 acres of land. This offer was also good for anybody who payed for another person to go to the colonies. The "headright" system was appealing to many "common folk", as they were known, because it promised them land and usually it was more land than they had in England.

The system that offered Georgia settlers 200 acres of free land, plus an additional 50 acres for each family member or slave, was known as the Headright System. This system was implemented in the 18th century to encourage settlement in the colony of Georgia. It aimed to attract more settlers by providing them with land as an incentive to establish farms and communities. The Headright System was part of the broader effort to populate and develop the region.

The Headright System
The Headright System offered Georgia settlers 200 acres of free land with an additional 50 acres per family member or slave. It was a program used to encourage people to settle in the colony and help with its development.
The Virginia Company established the headright system to encourage the settlement and cultivation of land in the Virginia colony. Under this system, settlers were granted a certain amount of land (usually 50 acres) for each person they brought to the colony, whether a family member or an indentured servant. This incentivized the migration of individuals and families to Virginia, aiming to boost the labor force and promote agricultural development, particularly in tobacco production. Ultimately, the headright system helped to populate the colony and increase its economic viability.
The Headright System
I believe that they used the headright system to capture, buy, and sell African slaves, but i'm not a 100% sure.

A non-example of a headright would be a system where land is distributed based on wealth or social status rather than the number of family members or heads of households. For instance, a lottery system that allocates land randomly to individuals without regard to family size or connections does not fit the headright concept. Additionally, sharing land among a community without assigning specific parcels to individual families would also be considered a non-example of headright.
