Who was discriminated against while building the transcontinental Railroad?

Chinese immigrants were treated very poorly by the Central Pacific Railroad company, as well as their home state of California. They were paid significantly less than white workers of the same skill level. They also weren't provided with complementary food and shelter like the white workers. They were given the most dangerous of the available jobs. As for California, the state passed laws keeping them from voting or becoming citizens, segregating their children from schools, and unfairly taxing them.
