Is Carmen chaplin African American?

genetically? somewhat. there is some African descent in her heritage (Trinidad i believe), but she's not "African-American" any more than she's Irish or Swiss. culturally she's obviously European and American but genetically she's a mutt...just like the other 99.99% of us. imo the term "African-American" is antiquated and segregates people, and is just a state of mind anyway. nowadays i prefer the term "North American". No Carmen Chaplin is not black Her father is British and Irish her Mother is from Spain. Her Grandfather is Charlie Chaplin and he was British.

Would you rather be called Indian or Native American or something else?

I being a native prefer to be called a native American

5 native American tribes?

There were several native American tribes that lived in America. Five of the tribes were the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw.

Why are the natives in America called Native-Americans when their civilization existed long before Europeans arrived to claim the continent?

Because they were natives to the American Continent. To the best of anyone's knowledge there was no native name for the country or continent. What would you suggest? Answer: This is actually a great question. Native American is just another form of political correctness. Native peoples are split on this. Some prefer Native American. Others prefer American Indian while still others feel Indian is just fine. Most refer to themselves as a member of their tribe anyway...ie..Mohegan, Tuscarora, Teton, etc. APEX a long-running pattern of whites removing Native Americans from their land, their lifestyle, and killing them.

Should you say Native American or American Indian?

There is no "one set" of acceptable definitions and every person will have arguments against both of those sayings as well as "Indigenous American" or "Indigenous People" as such any of these terms when used respectfully does not cause a problem. Be aware though that certain other colloquial terms can get you in trouble (Redman, Skin, Buck, Squaw, Chief, and combo's of those, etc.)
