If you mean how do you know if 1971-1975 Ike dollars are made of 40% silver, then look for the mint mark. If it is S, maybe it is 40%silver.
another way to see if it is silver is to look at the side. compare it with other Ike dollars. If it is lighter in color, then most likely you have a Ike dollar made of 40% silver
