Abraham Lincoln took a series of steps to start rebuilding of southern states that were a part of Confederacy. He asked the population to take oath of loyalty to Union and never to join Confederacy. He established the principle of pardon for all Confederate generals and soldiers. He abolished slavery and asked people to make blacks share croppers. He also allowed southern politicians to rejoin Congress but North remained in majority.
